Gelidonya Lighthouse

Gelidonya Lighthouse, located in the Kumluca district of Antalya, is known as the most important lighthouse of the Mediterranean. The other name of Gelidonya Lighthouse which is 237 meters high, is Taşlıkburnu Lighthouse. There are 5 islands in front of the headland where this lighthouse is located, which was established 3 km inland from the sea. However, these islands are not inhabited. This lighthouse is between Adrasan and Mavikent and is among the places to be seen.

HOW TO GO?

Gelidonya Lighthouse can be reached from 2 different points. However, it should be noted that there is no vehicle access here. The first route of the lighthouse route is the Adrasan route on the Lycian Way and a certain part of the road is continued on foot. You can reach Gelidonya Lighthouse after a 12 km walk by passing the paths here. The second transportation option is the 7 km Karaöz region and the Gelidonya Lighthouse route. You can drive on this route and you can get off the vehicle and walk in the last part. The most important point to remember is that there is no water source on both transportation roads. Therefore, those who want to see the Gelidonya Lighthouse should definitely take water with them and continue on their way.

FANTASTIC GELIDONYA LIGHTHOUSE

Gelidonya Lighthouse that one of the most beautiful walking routes of our country, is known as the point where blue and green meet. This area which has an important place in maritime and Lycian geography, is very dangerous because Cape Gelidonya due to countercurrent caused many ships to sink by being dragged to the rocks in ancient times. For this reason, the Cape is actually called an underwater cemetery. During the underwater research carried out in 1960, the remains of ancient ships were found.

Gelidonya Lighthouse, known as the guide lighthouse of the Mediterranean, started to be built in 1934 on Taşlık Cape in Kumluca.It was put into service in 1936 and It is the highest altitude lighthouse in our country.

Gelidonya Lighthouse is under protection by the Coastal Safety. There is no electricity in this lighthouse which is built on steep cliffs. In this lighthouse in which kerosene was used at first, a tube was used after a while and as of 2017, the lantern is illuminated by generating electricity with solar energy. The lantern which is 9 meters high from the ground, has a visibility of 10 miles.
